Nubian, Berber, Moor, Copt and Zaghawa peoples from Northern and Central Africa were bringing their culturesincluding their musical traditionsto the Asiatic Penninsula as far back as the Middle Ages. ![]() The intermingling of African and Japanese cultures began before Japan had been formally established as a nation. Along with iron, copper and manganese, both counties were exposed to the other's musical cultural. During the American occupation of the Philippines, their trading activities with the Japanese grew enormously as did immigration between the two countries. As Borromeo's act grew in popularity, he came to be known as the "King of Jazz" in his native country. In Chinese costumes, the trio performed a hybrid style of syncopated music that included jazz elementsintroduced to the Philippines through the American military presenceand Asian influences as well. In 1920, Borromeo returned to the Philippines, now billed as "Borromeo Lou," and organized the first Filipino vaudeville company. His trio included two Chinese-American singer/dancers and it became the highlight of the Orpheum stage shows. He was signed to a multi-year contract with the Orpheum Theater chain and toured with vaudeville-style stage shows in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland. In 1915 he was coaxed into an impromptu performance at the San Francisco Pan-Pacific International Exposition, gaining the attention of a promoter. A nationally famous pianist, Luis Borromeo, was sent as a child from his native island province of the Philippines to study music in the States. Early Jazz in Japan To understand the history of jazz in Japan, it is helpful to first look eighteen-hundred miles south to the Philippines a country that was occupied by the US and later by Japan, from 1898 until 1946. Still, the market for American jazz, inside of Japan, wasand continues to bea lucrative one though the roots of jazz in that country have sturdy ties to its native artists. Special consideration for these pressings were also given to the most popular international rock bands of the time - The Beatles, Pink Floyd and so on. But the red vinyl discs were reserved for specific recordings, only a small number of which were reissues of American jazz albums. From the mid-1950s through the mid-1970s these so-called "Everclean" pressings were designed to be less susceptible to the build-up of static electricity and, thus, not as likely to accumulate dust. Toshibaone of three major record manufacturers in 1950s Japanbegan producing a number of red vinyl pressings. Some Japanese manufactures claim that in the 1970s and 1980s American record labels frequently contracted with pressing companies that used recycled or cheap vinyl to press their records, resulting in poor sound quality. The demand for Japanese market jazz recordings is based on a number of factors. One could also purchase Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain (Classic Records, 1994) for two-hundred and fifty US dollars. Included in this massive twenty-one LP box set are Coleman Hawkins, Teddy Wilson, Lennie Tristano, Lester Young, Benny Carter, Milt Hinton and Lionel Hampton all mono recordings from the 1940s. Among the Japanese pressings of American artists, various retail outlets offer vinyl rarities such as Oscar Peterson's Nigerian Marketplace (Jive, 1982), recorded in July 1981 at the Montreux Jazz Festival, the mono version of Erroll Garner Plays (Ember/Tokuma, 1976) or The Complete Keynote Collection (Nippon Phonogram, 1986). Enthusiasts and collectors of jazz recordings had long ago discovered that Japan's robust music scene, and the now virtual accessibility to products have made the country a go-to resource for hard-to-find releases. in terms of revenuegenerates more than two-billion dollars in sales annually. This particularly frustrating with landing a manual, where half the time you're on point, and half the time not for no apparent reason. There's just something off with the visual cues, controller input and whether or not you're successful in landing a jump to a point where luck seems to be involved more than skill. I'm quite surprised of the high scores this game is getting from reviewers. to conclude i love this game with its fast pace and seriously addictive game play but one thing stops it from being a 10. I have one minor problem with the game though and that is some of the more difficult tricks for example double kick-flips and 720 flips are very difficult to pull off due to the fact you must move the analog stick in more than one direction as well as hold either R1 or L1 therefore making these tricks harder to preform accurately especially when you are mid combo and travelling at high speed. Passing through each level can take a huge number of attempts as you learn when and when not to continue combos to eventually reach the end but the super quick re-spawn times means you never stop playing. Still, maybe down the road we see a higher footage quality, because at $349.99, I believe many will be expecting it. The thing for us all to remember here, to increase video quality that much would mean weight and size increases, and LiveView has a solid selling point in a 4oz device that fits into the palm of your hand. As you can see in the screen captures in this article, you are not going to get HD footage, but it is adequate. ![]() Also, the age of HD cell phone cameras and HD everything has spoiled me a bit. Up to 60 FPS is going to be quite adequate for most, but I do wish they were able to squeeze out a bit more for a more detailed breakdown of the video. I will say that the video quality did leave me wanting more. What I was most impressed with is that you can go in and create templates for the different mark ups you want to use and save them, making them easy to access during or after practice. Additionally, this can be done after the swing is recorded, or you can place them on the screen while swinging to get their feedback throughout the swing. With multiple shapes, lines, and colors, you can seriously get after a variety of mark ups if you know how to use it all. No matter what method you decide to utilize, you can also mark up the video using its various swing tools. Finally, there is the “Auto Replay” which uses the sound of impact via the iPad to signal when the footage is to be trimmed into a recorded swing, this worked shockingly well for me, especially after realizing you can adjust the microphone sensitivity and time before and after impact for the app to record (since some people have longer more rhythmic swings than others). Second, you can press record and go at it to analyze and dissect later. ![]() First you can just use the live view of the app by sitting your iPad or tablet in front of you while swinging and get legitimate real time feedback, I was super impressed by the lack of lag when I was using it. When connected, you have essentially three options. Software navigation is quite intuitive, but even then, the first time you load up the app it gives you some quick yet effective walkthroughs that should answer any questions. From there, you are viewing live footage from the camera. You also have the choice of using a tripod or an alignment stick to position the camera, I did everything with the alignment stick and it worked flawlessly. Literally, you charge the device, download the app to your iPad (Android versions are in beta), power the camera up, connect the device to the camera’s WiFi signal, then connect the app. Using the LiveViewPRO is shockingly simple, which was a breath of fresh air. Additionally, the lens is wider angle now which does a good job at reducing the distance the user needs to be from the camera, basically it works better in tighter spaces. Now, while this does notincrease the overall quality of the camera to HD (you will see below in the included screen captures the actual visuals from the device), it does aim to let the camera take in a lot more light making it more useful in low light situations, namely indoors. He does a thorough job of breaking down the bells and whistles and because of that I want to focus this review instead on what has changed in the newest model as well as my experiences with it.Īccording to the company, there are two main changes from the previous iteration, first the camera itself has a four-times bigger sensor than its predecessor, and second the lens itself is simply larger. If you haven’t already, I encourage everyone to click on the link previously included in this article to see Dan’s thoughts on the previous version of LiveView Golf’s interesting little device. Video quality isn’t phenomenal, but given the size and weight of the device, it meets needs. Then, if used properly it could become a true game changer. Not only that, it has the potential to send the user deep down the rabbit hole of actual feedback and not just guesses as to the successes or shortcomings in their swing. I received the new LiveViewPRO for a closer look at what has changed, and what hasn’t. ![]() THP Staff Writer Dan Edwards reviewed the previous iteration called the LiveView+PLUS last November, but since then there have been some changes. Technology has helped us here with the ability to record our golf swings and review them, but typically that is done after the fact creating a giant back and forth which results in wasted time. ![]() A big part of that is that “feels” dominate the golf swing, and without some type of feedback the quest for ingraining the right “feels”while ridding your game of the wrong ones, the journey can be one fraught with frustrations. Practice makes perfect, while we have all used that old axiom at some point, the pursuit of ‘perfect’ in golf is enough to drive a person mad. ![]() 7/25/2023 0 Comments Add text with stitchbuddy![]() You now have everything you need to create an LLM application that is customized for your own proprietary data. Alternatively, you can use Pinecone, an online vector database system that abstracts the technical complexities of storing and retrieving embeddings. Once you have your embeddings, you must store them in a “vector database.” Vector databases are specialized for embeddings and provide different features, such as querying based on different measures (Euclidean distance, cosine similarity, etc.).Ī popular open-source vector database is Faiss by Facebook, which provides a rich Python library for hosting your own embedding data. Alternatively, you can use other embedding services such as Hugging Face or your own custom transformer model. OpenAI’s embeddings are 1,536 dimensions, which is among the largest. You provide the API with the text of your document, and it returns its embedding. To create embeddings for your documents, you can use an online service such as OpenAI’s Embeddings API. If your documents are PDF files, such as research papers, you’ll need to extract the text from them (you can do this with the Python PyPDF library). If not, you’ll need to use some sort of technique such as web scraping with Python Beautiful Soup to extract the text from the web pages. If your documents are already available in plain text in a database, then you’re ready to create the embeddings. To integrate embeddings into your chatbot workflow, you’ll need a database that contains the embeddings of all your documents. Using embeddings to capture semanticsīefore we get into embeddings, let’s create a high-level framework for our chatbot:Ģ- Retrieve the best document that is relevant to the promptģ- Create a new prompt that includes the user’s question as well as the context from the documentĤ- Give the newly crafted prompt to the language modelĬreating an embedding database for our documents This is where document embeddings can help. You need a systematic approach to match users’ prompts with the right pages and use the LLM to provide context-aware responses. Say you have a website that has thousands of pages with rich content on financial topics and you want to create a chatbot based on the ChatGPT API that can help users navigate this content. However, manually adding context to your prompts is not practical, especially when you have thousands of documents. The value of this technique is evident, especially in applications where context is very important. Giving ChatGPT context from a document ChatGPT responds based on document context This time, ChatGPT provides a different answer, extracted from the article’s text. In the following example, I ask ChatGPT the same question, but I prepend my prompt with “Answer my questions based on the following document:” followed by the text of an article from Investopedia about run rate. However, you can prompt ChatGPT to provide the answer from a specific document. But if you prepend your prompt with custom information, you can modify their behavior.įor example, if you ask ChatGPT the question, “What are the risks of using run rate?” it will provide a long answer (which is not bad). If you give them a plain prompt, they will respond based on the knowledge they have extracted from their training data. In this article, I will show you a framework to give context to ChatGPT or GPT-4 (or any other LLM) with your own data by using document embeddings. To solve this problem, we can augment our LLMs with our own custom documents. This can be problematic if you are working on an application where the language is highly technical or domain-specific. If you prompt ChatGPT about something contained within your own organization’s documents, it will provide an inaccurate response. ![]() However, these models are limited to the information contained within their training datasets. Large language models ( LLMs) like GPT-4 and ChatGPT can generate high-quality text that is useful for many applications, including chatbots, language translation, and content creation. ![]() |
